St Mary by the Sea Relocation

A new vision and a new location

Relocating / Replanting St mary by the Sea

St Mary by the Sea Cemetery

St Mary by the Sea are not selling the Cemetery. The cemetery is designated “public open space”, it sits in trust and we will continue to look after it and the ash plots.

St Mary by the Sea is relocating to Browns Bay

Our worshiping faith Community is in the process of relocating to Browns Bay. This will involve a chapel/shared space, a cafe and a community shop. Please read more about our vision below. We will be expressed in 3 keys ways:

1.  St Mary by the Sea Community Shop

2.  St Mary by the Sea Cafe

3.  St Mary by the Sea shared Chapel Space

St Mary by the Sea Cafe

A café that feeds people — and builds community

St Mary by the Sea Café is a new community café in Browns Bay serving great coffee by day and affordable, nourishing meals by night.

Every coffee, every meal, and every visit helps make sure that everyone in our community can eat well.

Good food. Good coffee. Doing good together.

What We Do

St Mary by the Sea Café is built on a simple idea:
a café can nourish both people and community.

During the day we operate as a high-quality commercial café serving coffee, breakfast and lunch.
In the evening we become a social enterprise café offering affordable, nutritious meals.

This model allows the café to be financially sustainable while also supporting those in our community who need it most.

How It Works

Daytime Café – St Mary by the Sea Cafe

  • Great coffee and a welcoming café space

  • Breakfast, lunch and takeaway options

  • A place to meet friends, work, or gather

Evening Social Enterprise Café – St Mary by the Sea @ Night

  • Affordable, nutritious dinners five nights a week

  • Shared tables and community connection

  • A warm meal for anyone who needs one

Pay It Forward

  • Customers can donate a meal for someone else

  • Those who cannot afford dinner can still eat

Why This Matters

Many families in Auckland are facing rising housing and living costs.
Even households with jobs can struggle to afford healthy meals.

St Mary by the Sea @ Night exists so that:

  • no one has to go without dinner

  • people can gather in a welcoming space

  • the community can support one another in practical ways

More Than a Café

St Mary by the Sea Café is also part of the wider community life of St Mary by the Sea.

The space will also host:

  • intergenerational worship gatherings – Sunday 10am

  • shared meals – Dinner Church, Saturday and Sunday Evenings

  • community connection

  • worship on weekends

The café helps make this space financially sustainable while remaining open and welcoming to everyone.
