Welcome
Today is Trinity Sunday, where instead of celebrating a festival of the church we remember an important aspect of our Christian faith. The fact that we have a Trinitarian God in the three persons of Father, Son and Holy Spirit. This glorious mystery can be hard to understand, how can God be one and three? Amazingly God reveals himself to us as our faith deepens, bit by bit we understand more about him as he draws us closer to him. If we acknowledge that he loves us and we live in the wonderful reality of that love, then we will experience him as Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Below is an update from the Diocese on our proposal.
The Bishop has sent a letter expressing the support of the Diocesan Council for the vision of the Parish. However, they have indicated that the site at 65 Clyde Road is unfortunately not financially viable for either purchase or lease. The Diocesan Council would like to see the business case continue to develop and are interested in fostering collaborations that could provide the resources necessary to secure a future for the project. Our next step at St Mary by the Sea, is to wait and see where things go with Diocesan Council as they meet with vestry. Vestry will then bring to the parish for consideration the Diocesan Council plans.

Food bank. Please help
This week has been crazy busy.
I have had busy weeks before but this was at another level.
Since Friday 6th (in the last 5 days) we have provided 4 emergency food support packages and 3 Good work Trust shops. Referrals have come from budgeting service, office walk ins, the Community police and a local school. The need is real, and it isn't going away any time soon.
I normally expect an increase in demand the week after the school holidays and this is always more pronounced in the July/ winter holiday but the number of requests and the level of need in each of these requests is significantly more this year.
Our move towards funding Good Work Shops has stretched our available food for Emergency food support a lot further than I initially planned but now our larders are looking very low. There is a plus side to this, now is the ideal time for us to do a date stock check to remove spoiled and short dated stock.
Volunteer opportunity:- If you are able to offer a couple of hours to assist with checking over our food stocks to remove spoiled items and sort short dated stock so we can pass these to another organization that can use them in time please email the church office.
We have no Rice, marmite, jam, and we are very low on shampoo and coffee.
If you, or someone you know is in need of a little extra support at this time via a food parcel please let Dion or the church office know. We can, by arrangement deliver the box if needed. All referrals are confidential. Referrals for food support can be made to the church office via email or telephone message at any time. These messages are checked Mondays and Fridays.
If you know someone who is struggling to provide themself or their family with food at this time of year please reach out to them to discuss a referral to our food bank. The simple question of 'Can I help?' to start the conversation is often all that is needed.
The Good Works Trust is DESPERATE for volunteer drives to deliver their food parcels. You can use their vehicle, drive with a buddy, help out occasionally or have a regular slot. If you are able to help or just interested enough to find out more please click the link below.

Community Shop. 6th Anniversary
On Matariki, our shop celebrates being open for 6 years. Our volunteers and their partners are invited to lunch on that day to thank them and to celebrate our anniversary.
We began in 2019 and for the first two years worked from the shop next to the Binn Inn in Inverness Road. Four years ago we shifted into our present premises at 38/2 Clyde Road [which, confusingly, is still in Inverness Road]
At first the shop was staffed exclusively by the Congregation of St Mary by the Sea but gradually our volunteers from the community have increased and now outnumber us 2 : 1. Our ministry in this area has developed into a mutually helpful service for volunteers who do the work for various reasons.
We often have been fortunate, over the years to have been able to assist by
· Sending electrical appliances and clothing to Tonga after their eruption and tsunami.
· Sending children’s clothing to the Plunket Nurse in Taumarunui for desperate families there.
· Giving children’s clothing to the local Plunket Society.
For ourselves, we have learned a great deal about running a business, experience great satisfaction in turning rejected items into cash and are delighted as our customers get great bargains when they buy our goods.

Celebrations
60th Wedding Anniversary/ vow renewal. Congratulations to David and Patricia Wareham (our neighbours) who are celebrating their 60th Wedding Anniversary on Saturday (21st June) by renewing their vows at St Mary at 2pm. Please remember them, their family and friends in your prayers as they celebrate.
Thank you to all those who volunteer their time, skills and aroha to St Mary by the Sea. We appreciate you.
This week is National Volunteer Week, 15-21 June 2025, it is Aotearoa’s largest annual celebration of volunteering. This year’s theme – Whiria te tangata – weaving the people together – speaks to the way volunteering strengthens communities and builds connection.
Every year one of the big jobs I have to do is to calculate the number of volunteer hours donated to St Mary by the Sea. We have an amazing array of people that volunteer their time, often in quietly, unassuming but vital in keeping everything running smoothly. WE THANK YOU.
And for those interested, the number of volunteer hours in 2024 was just over 10,300.
If you have a celebration that you would like to share with the congregation via the newsletter please email the church office on the email below. Please let the office know before 9am on the Tuesday before.
