Hospitality for Intergenerate Auckland 2024
Are you able to provide brownie or scones on Thursday 17th October?
St Mary by the Sea is hosting the Intergenerate Auckland conference day again on the 17th October.
The feedback we had from participants last year was incredibly positive about the warm and generous hospitality and beautiful food, with the morning and afternoon tea being generously provided by St Mary by the Sea parishioners. If you would be able to contribute to the day we would love either scones or chocolate brownie. We will be hosting a minimum of 40 people. Your baking can be dropped to the church on the afternoon of the 16th October or from 8am on 17th October.

Please let Angela know if you can help out.

Marks of Mission Series
The Marks of Mission were developed by the World Council of Christian Church and then adopted by the Anglican Communion. They are our commitment to an understanding of God’s holistic and integral mission.
- Treasure - To strive to safeguard the integrity of creation, and sustain and renew the life of the earth
- Tell - To proclaim the Good News of the Kingdom
- Teach - To teach, baptise and nurture new believers
- Tend - To respond to human need by loving service
- Transform - To transform unjust structures of society, to challenge violence of every kind and pursue peace and reconciliation
The Marks of Mission call us into the outworking of the transformation of our worship into mission outside the walls of our buildings.
Over the next 5 weeks we will be exploring these marks of mission and what they mean for us, and we will start with Treasure, safeguarding creation, and spend a final week reflecting on our Season of Creation and what God has been telling us during this time.

Food bank Update
We continue to be able to provide emergency food support via food boxes and thanks to generous donations we continue to be able to direct families to the Good Work Trust Community Supermarket.
Over the school holidays we continue to receive requests fro support from our local schools.
Whilst the food bank has been particularly blessed with donations recently there are items that we struggled to get adequate supplies of.
We would still like donations of the following:- Spreads for on toast in sandwiches, regular tampons, canned meat (not fish please), packs of bread wraps/ tortilla family packs appear the best value. If you are able to add an extra to your weekly shop for donation this would be greatly received. Thank you for your continued support of this mission.
If you or someone you know is in need of a little extra support at this time via a food parcel please let Dion or the church office know. We can, by arrangement deliver the box if needed. All referrals are confidential. Referrals for food support can be made to the church office via email or telephone message at any time. These messages are checked regularly and a reply can be expected within 48 hours. If you know someone who is struggling to provide themself or their family with food at this time of year please reach out to them to discuss a referral to our food bank. The simple question of 'Can I help?' to start the conversation is often all that is needed.

Behind the Scenes at the Community Shop. #2
I thought would write and tell you about another activities the Community shop does behind the scenes of being a retail Op-shop
God puts opportunities in our way.
Since we moved our Community Shop to Browns Bay, every year some of the revenue gained from this venture has gone towards funding Supermarket vouchers for distribution either via the shop, our church food bank or donated in bulk to the local schools. Each year we provide the 2 local high schools, the intermediate school and 5 local primary schools with vouchers. We request that the schools use these vouchers in a way that best suits them with the purpose of providing food for children / families in their community that are in need. In the past we have been able to respond to a special request from a school to provide winter appropriate clothing for children in need.
This habit, of passing on the blessings we have received to others, has facilitated the development of our good relationship with the local schools. They in turn have offered to support our food bank with can drives and collections and we in turn have been able to pass these resources on to further support families in the area.
The sphere of influence from our Community Shop is wide. We give thanks to God for all our volunteers and the community support that makes all this possible and for the opportunities that come our way.
