Hi ,
Welcome to St Mary by the Sea news for this week. We are in the middle of our teaching series called Unraveled. We hope to see you online this Sunday. As we are at Alert Level 3, there are no in-person services this Sunday, see you online.

We move to level 2 from 11:59 pm Sunday 30th August but there remains restrictions on gathering size in Auckland of a maximum of 10 people. This is due to be reviewed on 6th September and so we will continue to worship on-line for the time being. In the meantime stay safe at home but do join us on-line for worship and a morning tea catch up after service.

This week we have our last part of our unraveled series. This week we read from MARK 5:1-20 and look at JESUS HEALING LEGION, a man possessed by Demons, and the Unraveling of the Mind. He has been shunned from a local town and labeled a demoniac. He lives with the daily unraveling of his mind and is tortured by a legion of voices, which impel him to violently self harm. Jesus heals him and he breaks free from his shackles and bows at Jesus’ feet. His healing disrupts the status quo of the town. The townspeople fear the consequences of Legion being set free. How do we respond when the status quo—of our towns, churches, families—is disrupted? How can we better care for those whose minds have unraveled into illness?

And there is an opportunity to contribute to next weeks service. See the details below.

May God's peace be with you, Dion

Eternal and everliving God, our beginning and our end, you give us strength in the face of suffering and death. Set our minds on divine, not worldly things. Auckland Alert Levels

Hopefully we are near the end of this Level 3 lockdown. As I write this the government plan is that Auckland will move to Level 2 at 11:59pm Sunday 30th August but there remains restrictions in Auckland on gatherings with a maximum size of 10 people. The government have announced that this restriction will remain in place until at least 6th September.

This means, that worship at St Mary by the Sea will need to remain on-line for the time being. The church building is open by appointment, please contact Dion or Debbie in the office to arrange. The church hall is open for hire only when specific arrangements have been made to ensure that group size and Health and Safety can be managed. The Community Shop opens Monday 31st August with the government new Health and Safety requirements in place.

This means that there will be:
  • Wednesday 10am Bible Study on Zoom (link below)
  • Sunday 10am worship on YouTube and Zoom morning tea afterwards (links above)
  • No Wednesday or Sunday in-person services
  • No Mainly Music

On-line giving and Covid restrictions.

During the last set of Covid restrictions we had a number of people switch from giving via envelope or cash donation in church to using a form of on-line payment, (EFTPOS, Automatic Payments or Internet Transfer).

Electronic giving is useful as it eliminates the risks associated with handling cash or envelopes and enables donations to continue when we are not able to come in person into church.

If you would like information or assistance to change to electronic giving please get in touch with the office or Dion and we will be happy to answer any questions you might have. All forms of giving can be attributed to your giving number. Our bank account details are below in the contact fields.

Thank you for your continued support of this parish.

This has been POSTPONED

Unfortunately due to the uncertainly about the latest Covid restrictions we have taken the decision to postpone this event until a later date.
More information on a re-scheduled event will be posted once we have better clarity on restriction levels.
