This week we celebrate the our constitution. We call it "Te Pouhere", the mooring pole. The constitution is what keeps us anchored, and it is what we come back to. Jesus talks about the wise builder looking at the foundation they build on. Our constitution is our foundation.

We are grateful that New Zealand remains at Orange Level in the Covid protection framework and with that we enjoy the blessings of being able to worship in person. However it is important to remember that there are significant levels of Covid in our local community. As such I want to remind everyone that the St Mary's Buddy Family System is still operating. Should you or your family unfortunately fall victim of Covid please feel free to call the church office or text Dion and we can arrange grocery or prescription collections, check in calls or other support.
|
Lastly a reminder; if you or a member of your family hasn't had a vaccination or is due booster please look at getting this now. Vaccination supports not only you but those you love and live with.

Disability Awareness Sunday June 19th
This year Te Pouhere Sunday and Disability Awareness Sunday are celebrated on the same Sunday, June 19. The theme is from being “them and us” to being “us together” and weaves together Te Pouhere and Disability Awareness through becoming united in our diversity. Our differences can strengthen our communities. At the heart of both events is the celebration of our unity in Christ and diversity in being human.

Matariki – 24 June.
Matariki is the Māori name for the star cluster also known as the Pleiades. Its appearance in the sky traditionally signals the start of the Māori New Year. Matariki may be translated as tiny eyes, or eyes of God. The eyes are thought to watch over the land and its people. The date that the constellation appears in the night sky varies each year between June or July in the Southern Hemisphere. Celebrations in 2022 begin on 21 June, but from this year Matariki will be a public holiday in New Zealand and this will be observed on Friday 24 June.
|
There is no one way to celebrate Matariki, its is a time of changing seasons, to give thanks for the planet and the natural resource we are blessed with, for the food it grows and the shelter it provides. It is a time to share ideas, to remember the past and celebrate the future. It is a time for family and friends, to remember those past and celebrate new life. It feels fortuitous that we are under going our Healthy Church process at this time.

What you can do:- Matariki food Drive.
If it is within your means, I would like to encourage you to bring in an extra item of long life food for our food bank collection over the next 2 weeks. Winter is a time when for many it becomes a choice between paying for food for the table or heat in the home. This year we are seeing an increased demand on food banks. Our food bank collecting in church (the basket inside the church) goes to Longbay Baptist church where our local food parcels are distributed from. This really is a case when your small gift, when gathered together with gifts from others can make a huge difference to a family. Thank you from Debbie

Community Shop
Closed Friday 24 June - Matariki.
|
Open Tuesday - Saturday inclusive 10am to 4pm.
|
Our Community shop not only raises funds that support the ministries of St Mary by the Sea but funds raised also go towards providing financial support via food vouchers to those in need in the local community. The community shop has enabled us to make contacts that facilitate the shipping of excess goods to Tonga to provide aid there. It's great to think that instead of these items going to land fill they are being valued and put to good use.
|
Winter clothing is currently selling well in the shop, if anyone has had a wardrobe clear out and has winter clothing they no longer want please donate this to our store where we can put it to good use.
|
Come and have a look around the community shop yourself, you may find that perfect fashion accessory or some crafting materials or something new and inspiring to read.
