    Keeping you safe in Orange

We continue to have our online service at 10am in parallel for the forseeable future. Please do not attend on-site worship if you are supposed to be isolating following a positive test result for yourself or a household contact, or if anyone in your home is experiencing any Covid-19 symptoms, or you are awaiting a Covid-19 test result; please instead join our online service.

My Vaccine Passes are not required for any purpose on-site, to either visit or volunteer, this includes St Mary by the Sea, the Hall, and the Community Shop.

We a QR code for you to scan in if you wish. We continue to operate safely in ORANGE onsite, this means:
    • We encourage you to wear a mask
    • Doors open for ventilation – so wear a jumper or bring a jacket
    • The peace in sign language - with the option of physical sign of peace if the person you are exchanging the peace with is comfortable with that.
In ORANGE it is not necessary to be physically distanced, morning tea is served from the kitchen. Soft chairs are used. Communion is served at the altar rail.

To mark the close of Samoan Language Week.

Here is a short video of the Lords Prayer in Samoan with Samoan and English translation. Enjoy.

Welcome return to Mainly Music at St Marys

Mainly Music is held on Fridays at 9:30am during term time. We are able to run sessions at Orange. Equipment is cleaned between sessions and all practical safe-guards are in place to help ensure the safety of our families and volunteers.

Mainly Music is open to all families with preschool children. If you know of a local family please let them know about this group. A $4 donation per family is asked and the music activities start at 9:30am so please arrive slightly before then. For information on attending please contact Carol on 4795289.

    Volunteers Needed.

We are looking for anyone who is able to volunteer to help with Mainly Music. Volunteers are needed for setting up the space for the session on a Thursday, putting the chairs back afterwards, at 11:30am on a Friday, or to help run the session between 9am and 11:30am on a Friday. Tax returns an update.

Please read all of this carefully, there is information that may effect you.

All the tax receipts have now been processed and everyone should have receive theirs. To save time, (because I have been away for a few weeks), and expense most receipts have been emailed out. If you have not received your tax return please check in your spam folder. If it is not there please email the office. There are a few receipts for which I did not have an email address, these are printed and on the credenza in the church for collection. I will post any not collected on the 7th June. The collating of donations and the issuing of tax receipts is performed by the Diocesan accountant Trust Management, if you have any questions relating to your tax receipt please email me straight away and I will pass on your questions to them for you.

Again, a huge thank you to everyone for the contributions you have made to St Mary by the Sea for the tax year ending April 30 2022. It is donations such as yours that have enabled us to continue the work of the church, providing opportunities for worship and service, along with the hosting of our much-valued community programmes. Again, thank you for continuing to bless St Mary by the Sea with your support and generosity.

A message from the church office.

As some of you will know, my family like a million other New Zealanders, has recently had Covid.

We are grateful that New Zealand remains at Orange Level in the Covid protection framework and with that we enjoy the blessings of being able to worship in person. However it is important to remember that there are significant levels of Covid in our local community. As such I want to remind everyone that the St Mary's Buddy Family System is still operating. Should you or your family unfortunately fall victim of Covid please feel free to call the church office of text Dion and we can arrange grocery or prescription collections, check in calls or other support.
    SMbtS Buddy Family
Lastly a reminder; if you or a member of your family hasn't had a vaccination or is due booster please look at getting this now. Covid isn't pleasant and vaccination supports not only you but those you love and live with.

    Community Garden

Are you interested in being part of the St Mary by the Sea community garden? For more information, see the information on the Welcome Desk, or talk to Dianne Denman, or Nannette Randall at the 10am service. There is an expression of interest form here, and a brochure here. and on our website here:

    Community Shop

Now open Tuesday - Saturday inclusive 10am to 4pm.

Our takings of the Community shop in April was $8800, expenses have to be taken from this.

Our Community Shop is now selling winter clothing and this is going well. If anyone has had a wardrobe clear out and has winter clothing they no longer want please donate this to our store where we can put it to good use. The Community shop has established a route via which we can send excess goods to Tonga to aid with their recovery after they experienced the terrible tsunami earlier this year.

It is great to think that our Community shop is not only helping support St Mary by the Sea, but also providing financial support via food vouchers to local schools and to those in need in the local community and is providing assistance in Tonga.

    Introducing RAFT

Currently occupying the space under the church hall.

Raft studio in Torbay is a 'walk in and create' space where locals can spend time learning new Arts and Crafts - help others learn the crafts they know or just enjoy hanging out and socializing.

Our team of 6 (plus the entourage of family and friends) has come together to create this warm and inviting space where we encourage creativity to help with wellness as well as connect our community. Our team are Helen, Jan, Jen, Lorraine, Ruth and Tanya.

We offer classes in different craft mediums including sewing, papercraft, mixed media, painting and Art Therapy as well as many more. As our Studio is a not-for-profit organization, we aim to donate back into our community through offering low cost classes and free workshops. Cost is from free to $20per class, with private workshops being no more than $55.

Our studio space has been gifted to us by St Mary by the Sea, which we are very grateful for and enjoy the lovely relationship we have created between SMBTS and our team. To stay focused on our low waste and recycled ethos, we rely on community donations of materials and equipment - we aim to recycle and reuse as much as possible and have joined the Zero Waste initiative with Auckland council. 80% of our materials and tools have been donated and saved from landfill.

We welcome you to wander through our spaces and see how we operate and achieve the goals we set for ourselves and those who join our studio.

Next time you are in Torbay, please come in and say Hi, or check out our website for more information
