... I've been meaning to ask, where does it hurt?
this week in I've Been Meaning to Ask. We ask, what do you need?
Our goal of this worship series is to cultivate a holy sense of curiosity and connection by encouraging the skills of holy listening, of listening with the purpose of discovery and one that is reciprocated. By doing this we hope that the relationship between members of the congregation will be encouraged.
We believe that we all have needs and that we need each other. What do you need? reminds us that we each have unique needs; we can’t assume to know what is best for others. It also prompts us to reflect on our own needs, priorities, and desires, which can sometimes be difficult to discern from one situation to the next.
In the midst of Job’s afflictions, three of his friends promptly leave their homes and come to him. They tear their garments, weep loudly, and sit with him for seven days, saying nothing. Their response is the ministry of presence, of true solidarity, of seeing his excruciating pain and joining him there.
Beaten and imprisoned, Paul writes to Timothy with a simple request: “Come quickly.” He lists those who abandoned him, but says, “I hope that God doesn’t hold it against them!” In his greatest moment of need, Paul doesn’t need revenge, but instead asks for companionship. In essence, this is what we all need—for someone to come quickly, to gather the items we need, and to simply show up.
This week we commit to disrupting our assumptions and staying curious.
Journeying with you, Dion.
... I've been meaning to ask
So often we sit side by side and week after week in the pews without truly getting to know one another.
This is a series where we encourage curiosity, courage, & connection. Our society is desperately in need of spaces for connection and conversation. We know that change, growth, and healing can only come through curiosity, empathy, and courage. Over the next four weeks, we hope to move beyond small talk to practice curiosity, listening, and connection.
- where are you from?
- where does it hurt?
- what do you need?
- where do we go from here?

Anglican Missions Get one- Give One Campaign.
Get-one. Give-one is an Anglican Church wide (and soon to be New Zealand wide) campaign! Already over $6500 has been raised!
In being thankful for the availability of vaccines in our country, we are aware that many people are not so fortunate. The Get one. Give one. Campaign aims to protect and support the poorest and most vulnerable.
When you get your Covid-19 vaccine, please consider donating $10 so that one of the world's most vulnerable can get theirs. $50 covers a family of five and $100 covers two families!
Supporting the 'Get One. Give One.' campaign is simple.
Donations are being directed through Givealittle, rather than through Anglican Missions.
Lets pass our gratitude on because Covid -19 won't be over until it's over for everyone.
- Spread the word with family, friends and your workplace. This is a chance for families, workplaces, schools and churches to mobilise together to make a world wide difference.
In New Zealand the Covid vaccine is Free to everyone aged over 16.

The overwhelming majority or our listeners (80%+) are those you won’t see at church, and we’ve designed our programmes with them in mind. Please join us for afternoon tea with CBA’s CEO, Phil Guyan. Phil and the CBA team, including Petra Bagust and Rev Frank Ritchie, will be giving a short presentation about what makes CBA so effective at reaching out to every day New Zealanders and speaking Christ into people’s homes. We would love to meet you. Bring a friend or come along with your prayer or Bible study group.

Cyber safety.
Auckland Dioceses have made us aware of a scams currently targeting churches. People are emailed, apparently by the clergy, and asked for money to support a person in need. If you receive any email asking you for money, gift-cards or anything similar, please ignore it and delete it. It is recommended you report it to the Police and/or Netsafe. You will never be asked for money or gift cards via email. Please only give money to St Mary by the Sea, via online banking (details below) or EFTPOS at St Mary by the Sea.
This is a timely reminder to all parishioners to be cautious of any email asking for money or gift cards. Auckland Diocese has a policy that clergy in the Anglican Church do not ask for funds directly in this way.

Prayer for Persecuted Believers
I am a local Christian and run a small prayer group using information from Barnabas Fund, Voice of the Martyrs, Open Doors and other organisations. We pray for our Christian brothers and sisters in nations where it is illegal for them to practice their faith, or even own a Bible, and also thank God for answered prayer.
If you have a particular nation or people group on your heart please feel free to come and share, so we can join together in prayer.
At present, we meet every second Monday of the month at Northcross Church, and start with refreshments at 7pm before we pray.
You will be made very welcome, and for more information please contact Margaret Marriott at mamarriott@xtra.co.nz or 021 0242 2641
