Hi [subscriber:firstname],
this week on Te Pouhere Sunday, we celebrate our churches constitution. A pouhere is a mooring post, and it is the post you would tie your waka up to overnight, so that when you came out in the morning, it hadn’t floated away on the outgoing tide. A pouhere though might be a post, or it might be a tree,
or a big boulder, it is something that stops us drifting away.

Today we look at what grounds our faith, what keeps us in the one place, and what we come back to. Because there are some truths we continue to come back to. And the scripture chosen for us to anchor to, is Matthew's Gospel and the sermon on the mount. This is the scripture that guides us in how we live. What is it that guides you? What do you come back to?

Journeying with you, Dion.

    Community Shop

Welcome to our new Community Shop. The Community Shop has relocated further down Inverness Rd to a larger brighter building that will allow us to hold more stock on premises. Although the physical address of the shop is 38 Clyde Rd the entrance-way is on Inverness Rd just up from the ASB bank, (next to the Japanese restaurant. New signage will be up shortly.

A huge thank-you to everyone for all your hard work and long hours over the last weekend moving us into the new shop.

The Community shop took just over $9,000 in May which is another excellent month. Expense's need to be taken off this total. 6th June marks the second anniversary of our Community shop. Over the last year, (1 June 2020 to 31st May 2021) our Community shop has taken just over $97,000 in revenue. Thank you to everyone who continues to support this mission.

    Cyber safety.

Auckland Dioceses have made us aware of a scams currently targeting churches.
People are emailed, apparently by the clergy, and asked for money to support a person in need. If you receive any email asking you for money, gift-cards or anything similar, please ignore it and delete it. It is recommended you report it to the Police and/or Netsafe. You will never be asked for money or gift cards via email. Please only give money to St Mary by the Sea, via online banking (details below) or EFTPOS at St Mary by the Sea.

This is a timely reminder to all parishioners to be cautious of any email asking for money or gift cards. Auckland Diocese has a policy that clergy in the Anglican Church do not ask for funds directly in this way.

If there is a celebration you would like added to our list or a one off event that you would like celebrated please let the office know. Email newsletter@stmary.co.nz

    Prayer for Persecuted Believers

I am a local Christian and run a small prayer group using information from Barnabas Fund, Voice of the Martyrs, Open Doors and other organisations. We pray for our Christian brothers and sisters in nations where it is illegal for them to practice their faith, or even own a Bible, and also thank God for answered prayer.
If you have a particular nation or people group on your heart please feel free to come and share, so we can join together in prayer.

At present, we meet every second Monday of the month at Northcross Church, and start with refreshments at 7pm before we pray.

You will be made very welcome, and for more information please contact Margaret Marriott at mamarriott@xtra.co.nz or 021 0242 2641

    Covid vaccine

From late May the government is starting to roll out Covid Vaccinations for those in the population that are classed as Group 3. Group 3 covers those people aged over 65 or with an existing medical condition that would leave them more at risk should they catch Covid. If you are unsure if this applies to you, or you have questions about the vaccine and your medical condition, please speak to your General Practitioner or Healthline. They are the best place to get information and to advise you. The information from Healthline regarding the vaccination roll out is 'individuals will receive an invitation from their District Health Board DHB inviting them to book in for a vaccine. This invitation will come via email or text. Each District Health Board DHB is managing its own vaccine roll out so dates will vary slightly around the country and it may take a couple of months for all in this group to receive their invitation'. If you have concerns about how or when you will receive your invitation please contact your General Practitioner. If anyone is wanting support with booking a vaccination please feel free to contact the church office.
