Lent day 44

Theme: Light

John 12:34-36

The crowd said to Jesus, “The Scriptures teach that the Messiah will live forever. How can you say that the Son of Man must be lifted up? Who is this Son of Man?”

Jesus answered, “The light will be with you for only a little longer. Walk in the light while you can. Then you won’t be caught walking blindly in the dark. Have faith in the light while it is with you, and you will be children of the light.”

After Jesus had said these things, he left and went into hiding.

Reflection prompts

  • Who or what serves as a nightlight in your life—helping you see where you are, helping to guide your path?

God of light, if I am walking, I want to walk toward the dawn. I want to walk into the sun. I want to walk closer to you. There are many long shadows that can distract and deter. Help guide my feet. Be my light. Gratefully I pray. Amen. - Prayer by Rev. Sarah Are | A Sanctified Art LLC |

Tuesday missing

I have just discovered that Tuesday's email didn't go. Here it is below:

Lent day 42

Theme: Wish

John 12:20-21

Some Greeks had gone to Jerusalem to worship during Passover. Philip from Bethsaida in Galilee was there too. So they went to him and said, “Sir, we would like to meet Jesus.”

Reflection prompts

  • What wishes do you have—for your faith, for our relationship with God, for your relationship with yourself?

Gracious God, there is much that I wish for. I wish for longer Sabbath days, for starry nights, for peace in my bones, for love in this city. However, above all else, I wish to see you. I wish for a closer relationship with you, O God. So scoop me up. Hear this wish. Hear this prayer. For I am like the Greeks who said, “We wish to see Jesus.” Amen. —Prayer by Rev.
