Easter 8 - The ascension

For any of us who have trained for something, there comes a time when the apprenticeship is over, and we're left to go for it. The disciples are exactly that, they are disciples of Jesus, they are in training. They have learnt from their master, their teacher, their Lord, what it is they have to do. And the ascension is their graduation ceremony. Jesus blesses them for the next stage and then withdraws. He leaves them to it. They are now apostles. The ministry is now theirs.
Peace, Dion.

Online Worship Stream

We are live online with YouTube, Sunday 10:02am. If you join at 10:05, you will miss the first 3 minutes, just like if you turn up to church late. Join at 10:00am and you’ll have a two minute count down to the 10:02am start. If you miss out on the start, come back after 10:40 and you’ll be able to see the service from the beginning. The link to our YouTube Chanel is the same each week. Click the button below for the YouTube channel.

Worship Preparation

We aren’t leaving our space for St Mary by the Sea this week, so how about preparing a space for worship? Create a special space for worship. What about when you turn the computer or TV on for YouTube, that you light a candle, get your bible, notebook, Pen and drink. Make this your worship space for the next 30 minutes.
This week at reflection time we will be talking about gumboots. Are your's ready?

Covid-19

We are currently at Level 2

For the next couple of weeks social gatherings are limited to a maximum of 10 people, so we wont therefore be resuming worship at St Mary by the Sea for a while longer. We know that this will be disappointing to many people who have been looking forward to meeting for worship. In the meantime we encourage you to be safe and connect as you can, expanding your bubble and activities in a way that is safe and sensible for you. There are many ways we can continue to connect with others and with God. Kia Kaha and we are thinking of you all as we slowly recreate our lives. May we show wisdom and love. Our prayers are particularly with those who are sick and the kids who will be heading back to school next week. We'll be thinking of you.

Level 2

Worship

At this stage during Level 2, worship will continue to be offered online only. This will be reviewed as the government release new guidelines. We expect to review this on Tuesday 26th May 2020. Worship for Pentecost Sunday will be offered online on Sunday 31st of May, whether we can, or cannot meet in person. We wil let you know via this newletter what is happening for Sunday 31st March. As said last week, vestry had planned for in-person worship, including new hygiene and cleaning regimes, arranging furniture for appropriate social distance and things like that. But at this stage, in-person worship is not possible. Vestry will continue to make plans for our eventual return. For now Be kind, Stay home, Wash your hands.

Online Worship to continue

We anticipate continuing to offer online worship for all of level 2, in some form for those for whom it is not safe to worship in person, even when in person worship resumes.

Bible Study

We will still have our Wednesday Zoom bible study group.

Community Shop

The Community Shop will re-open on Saturday 23rd May at 10am.

Funerals

Clergy can officiate at a funeral. But it would be very small gathering of no more than 10 people in total, with no contact. If asked to officiate at a funeral in level 2, we can also offer the option of a memorial service at a later stage for a larger gathering when that is safe and possible. If the Funeral Director associated with the funeral registers the service with the Ministry of Health and otherwise complies with all Government funeral guidelines as announced on Wednesday 13 May 2020, a funeral of up to 50 people is possible.

Outreach

Mainly Music remains closed.

Opening St Mary by the Sea

We are preparing to re-open St Mary by the Sea at level 2, on Monday 18th May. The building is open for prayer. The building is not open at this stage for public worship. Things will be a bit different to what you are accustomed to.
  1. We will be removing the common points of contact, like prayer lists and pens. We will not be distributing anything from the church, and we specifically aren't allowed to distribute paper.
  2. Access is available to the foyer and toilets. To access other areas you need to liaise with Debbie and Dion.
  3. If you wish to meet with Debbie or Dion, this will happen in the foyer.
  4. Solid surfaces will be regularly sanitised.
  5. Doors will be left open so that they aren't a common point of touch
  6. You need to "Sign-in" in the entrance after having sanitised your hands
  7. In level 2 you will need to call ahead, as the building is only open by appointment, please phone Dion or Debbie (numbers below)
  8. This will be reviewed as the government release new guidelines. We expect to review this on Tuesday 26th May 2020.
