This week we start a new series Our Money Story. Money is often a complicated, divisive and sensitive issue so it is reasonable to ask, why are we doing this? What we need to understand, is that our understanding of money impacts on our spirituality, just as all our other experiences do. This series will take us through some of the scripture that reveals what God's money story is and how we might transform our own understanding of money to be more inline with Jesus.
As part of our in person worship we will be creating a mandala. If you would like to do your own mandala as we move through this series, make sure you have printed out the mandala print from the newsletter and have some colouring pencils handy.
Today the theme is "remember" and we remember God's steadfast relationship with us through time and trials. We remember that Judas betrayed Jesus in exchange for money but was still invited to the table. We remember that the Israelites complained in the wilderness but were met with manna. Even in stories of desperation and deep betrayal we are gifted with God's provision - of the feast of enough, and the holy meal of remembrance.

Our Money Our Story
Starting this week...
We all have a money story, whether we recognize it or not. Perhaps we are living from a story of fear or shame. Or a story that the church is dying and no longer relevant. Or a story that our actions won’t have an impact. Or a story that we don’t have enough. Where might God be speaking a new narrative into the limited ones we have told ourselves?
This series invites us to discover and tell our money stories in light of God’s money story of liberation and justice. This series encourages us to transform our stewardship practices into more full expressions of who we are and what we believe.
This theme is intentionally direct—it invites us to name exactly what we’re talking about and not skirt around it. To speak of money is to invite tension into the room. We so quickly want to avoid it. It’s time to re-frame this. Money and possessions are one of the most common topics in scripture, and Jesus talked about money more than faith and prayer. Our money story, therefore, is a spiritual story. Thinking about God’s money story should be liberating, inviting, and transformative.
As we begin the year, we invite you to remember, release, re-imagine, and restore your money stories so that you can write the one God is calling you to live into.

On 15 January the underwater Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha'apai volcano erupted leading to significant ash falls across Tonga and triggering tsunami waves. While electricity and mobile phone networks have been re-established on the main island of Tongatapu, communications with the outer islands are intermittent. The Tongan Navy has reported major damage in the Ha’apai Islands. Waves were estimated to be 5-10 metres in height and reaching 500 metres inland. The needs on the ground will be significant, especially in the northern more isolated islands. Pending assessments, the damage could include contaminated water and food supplies as a result of ashfall and damage due to inundation.
Anglican Missions is working with The Anglican Diocese of Polynesia to replenish prepositioned relief supplies located at four Anglican churches in Nuku’alofa, along with assisting in a response and recovery project based on needs assessments from our communities in Tonga. They will provide regular updates on their website as well as on Facebook and Instagram.
